What Are Creative LUTs?

Creative LUTs are color presets that apply a visual style or mood to your footage. Unlike corrective LUTs, which fix technical issues, creative LUTs are purely artistic, they shape how your video feels and looks to the viewer. In ContentCreator.com’s LUT library, Creative is one of the two main types available alongside Corrective.

How to Browse Creative LUTs

You can then narrow down your options using four filter categories:

Tone

Controls the overall emotional feel of the color grade. Options include:

  • Muted: Subdued, understated colors for a calm or editorial feel.

  • Bold: Strong contrast and rich color for high-impact visuals.

  • Playful: Bright, lively colors suited to lifestyle and social content.

  • Bleak: Dark, desaturated, and heavy, great for serious or somber storytelling.

  • Hopeful: Warm, lifted tones that feel optimistic and uplifting.

  • Dramatic: High contrast and deep shadows for a cinematic, intense look.

Style

Defines the visual aesthetic or reference point of the look. Options include:

  • Retro: Vintage-inspired colors reminiscent of film from past decades.

  • Experimental: Unconventional looks that push color in unexpected directions.

  • Cinematic: Clean, film-like grades that match the look of professional productions.

  • Monochromatic: Black-and-white or single-hue treatments for a striking, graphic feel.

  • Pop: Vivid, saturated, and eye-catching colors designed for social media.

Saturation

Filters by how intense or subdued the colors are in the LUT:

  • Low: Minimal color intensity for a natural or muted result.

  • Mid: Balanced saturation suitable for most content types.

  • High: Bold, rich color that commands attention.

Temperature

Filters by the warm or cool bias of the LUT:

  • Cool: Blues and teals are dominant, creating a clean or moody atmosphere.

  • Neutral: No strong warm or cool bias, preserving a balanced, natural color temperature.

  • Warm: Oranges and yellows are emphasized for a golden, inviting feel.

Named Creative LUTs in the Library

The ContentCreator.com Creative LUT library includes individually named looks, each visible as a thumbnail preview on your own footage. Examples visible in the dashboard include Polish, Cleanse, and Resolve, each offering a distinct take on color grading that you can audition before downloading.

When to Use Creative LUTs

Always apply creative LUTs after your corrective LUT has been applied. Once your footage is technically balanced, drop a creative LUT on top to define the final look of your video. In Adobe Premiere Pro, apply it through the Creative tab in the Lumetri Color panel, where you can also adjust the Intensity fader to blend the look more subtly.
